Watching other Businesses especially the ones that are similar to yours can help you keep up to date with new technology or social media updates. Their tactics might work for you since they are trying to attract the same audience. Don’t copy, be creative, use the technique make it new and stand out from the crowd.

Life is too short – AM Total Business Solutions Ltd

My meeting with  media and publishing CEO Allan Sealy

It was my pleasure to meet up in London with Allan Sealy CEO of MIA designs and he’s done a bit of acting too (he keeps this quiet though!)

Don’t be fooled by the softly spoken Allan! As well as owning MIA designs and MIA publishing house, Allan is currently promoting MVP-life – the magazine for successful living, which showcase critical insights from field leaders and captains of industry on how to become an outstanding achiever in all areas of life. He started out on his own in 1997.

Allan sees himself as a business trailblazer, always striving to provide a unique service. He is also a trained life coach as well as a prolific writer and motivational speaker. He is the author of Pearls of Wisdom Life Skills Strategies and his teachings on life mastery has helped many in identifying their true passion and purpose in life. A man of excellence, his passion (which comes across when you meet him) is to communicate the principles that unleash the unlimited potential within each of us. In addition to this, he is a really nice guy!

As per usual, I asked my favourite interview question which is: What are the 3 most important things you would tell a start-up business? His reply was as follows:

  1. Have a clear vision-if you have a vision then you can make a plan, which you can then match up to presenting opportunities. You may even have several layers of vision which will need constant evaluation
  2. Identify your core strength- Ask yourself questions such as: “Is this good for me?” or “Does it add or take away from my vision?” This can take time to work out.
  3. Focus- don’t try to do everything however remember at the same time that some things will have to be learned through trial and error

I hope you find these tips helpful as a gentle reminder of how much attention you need to spend on yourself when it comes with running your own business. Why? Because….

5 ways experts can help to grow your business

5 ways experts can help to grow your business

Running a small business has various challenges, however did you know that there are experts out there who can help grow your business?

I love working with people who know more than me! I do not see them as a threat, rather I seem them as my teachers who will help me go further and faster than I would have without them.

One of the common complaints I come across when talking to other small businesses is the fear that other people will steal your customers from you. All I can say about that is if you have made a healthy bond with your client they will remain loyal to you. If that is your reason for not collaborating or working with experts then it may take you a while to get your business up and running.

attracting people in business

So what can experts do for you and your business? Here are 5 areas to consider:

  1. Social media- We all understand the need to keep on the frontline of social media for many of us this is how we keep a “presence” for potential customers. This can also be incredibly time consuming, so unless this is your money maker then maybe you could outsource it?
  2. Accounting- Why not remove the stress of having to get your finance and books straight (unless of course you a very good at this) and get some assistance with this?
  3. A Business Mentor- Go to someone you consider to be a trusted advisor (who won’t steal your clients or contacts) who can support you in keeping focused and not wandering off into unknown territory!
  4. Partnering or collaborating – this can be done for particular ventures or projects which you know you can deliver in part but not the whole thing. This could be very lucrative if you are prepared to take the risk and work with someone else.
  5. Marketing- getting together with an expert who knows their stuff and how you need to promote your particular service is like gold dust! You might just need to pay for a couple of sessions to get you off the ground.

All of this being said it is still your choice how you wish to grow your business however in my humble opinion getting support for the areas which are either too time consuming or not your strength is worth the investment. There are times to be protective over the growth of your business and there are times to attract people with strengths.

If you are a visionary leader or an entrepreneur, you will definitely need time and space to let your creativity flow (those of you in this category know exactly what I mean!) rather than getting bogged down in the nitty gritty of service delivery. Why? Because….

Guest Blog: Label me NOT! (part 2) by Romeo Effs

Guest Blog: Label me NOT! (part 2) by Romeo Effs

AM Total Business Solutions Ltd - www.angelarmorris.com

As an entrepreneur, mentor and coach I come across numerous people who get stifled by the stereotype and negative labelling that some people in society insist that they wear. They let this affect how they behave and progress, sapping their self-esteem and confidence. Never let this happen to you. Make sure you are wearing the right label at all times. You need to think and believe in yourself as strong, talented, valuable, and more than a conqueror. Don’t miss out on all the great and wonderful success that the universe has to offer, and what you are destined to be and achieve.

Don’t spend another hour, day, month or year of your life with negative labels stuck all over you, or allow even one negative comment to hold you back. If I had made the mistake of wearing all the negative labels that people placed on me, I would not have achieved exemplary educational and professional qualifications, excelled in my career or realized my dream of running my own global business. You are not those stereotypes or negatives things people say you are. You are the master of your own destiny; and once you consciously Think it; Believe it; and take action to Own it, the universe will deliver, and you will become what and who you want to be.  When you remove negative labels and replace them with positive uplifting ones, you will flourish and become prosperous.

My father died when I was 9 years old, and we had to give up all the luxuries we were accustomed to as a family to live with my grandmother in a half wooden house, with a pit (a hole in the ground) as a toilet. We also had to take showers behind a few pieces of corrugated zinc in a plastic tub, and prepared meals using coal or wood outside in the open. This was not what we were used to doing.  However, we had to adapt quickly and believe that it was temporary and had faith that we would become the individuals our father wanted us to become. A close family member of my father told me that I would end up in the “poor house”; in other words, amount to nothing.

That was the negative label he choose to put over my life. He could not stop my destiny; he could not stop what the universe and God had planned and ordained to happen in my life. I could have allowed his words to seep into my bones and take root, believing that I was now poor and would amount to nothing, end up on the streets suffering and becoming a bum. If I had allowed these negative words to take root, it would have manifested, and I would not have become who and what I am today. I would not be doing all the things which I love doing and am passionate about, like helping people succeed and seeing that joy in their faces when they do.

You may have been told something similar in school even though your teacher may have been sincere. Regardless of what was said to you and by whom in the past, tell yourself: “I can do better; I was created to be somebody, to make a difference in the world, and leave a lasting legacy.”

Don’t go the next day, month or year wearing any negative labels. Change your focus. Rewrite your story. How do you do this? You have to keep reinforcing those positive and good labels in your thoughts. You have to make these become your dominant thought, and keep repeating them in your head and out loud. Each time someone tries to speak something bad over your life, be kind and polite and let them know that it is not who you are. Let them know that what they think, or say about you is not your reality. Take on these labels. Read them aloud – “I am a conquer,” “I am blessed,” “I am victorious,” “I am great,” “I am brilliant,” “I am intelligent,” “I am a gladiator,” and “I am beautiful!” Keep repeating them until you get a smile on your face and let these words of strength seep into your bones.

Our true labels are inside us, which are “greatness”, “magnificence”, “fabulous”, “achiever”.  The seed of greatness is in all of us, no matter where we were born, or what our circumstances are.

It is so easy to make what people say about us become our reality and shape us into who we are and who we become. What you will realise is that once people see you peeling off negative labels they will treat you the way you expect – as equals of high and respectable value. You have to be strong and resilient. Keep focused, making sure those negative labels peel off completely and never stick again.

Many of us have been given a label in life! This week serial entrepreneur, business coach and mentor Romeo Effs is sharing with us what to do about it….

LABEL ME NOT! (Part 1) By Romeo Effs

Angies phone 001

Throughout life we will meet people who keep telling us what we can or cannot become. Sometimes this is good, but more often than not, we are negatively labeled. Yet, it is only when we affirm these negative labels that they seep into our subconscious and paralyse our progress. We cannot stop these daggers from being fired, but we can choose to armor ourselves with positive thoughts, images and self-confidence.

The only power that negative labels have over you is the power you give them. Stop talking to people about them. Stop repeating them. Only then you will remove them. Words are like seeds; if you dwell on them long enough, they take root and become what was said, good or bad.

The only purpose that negative labels have in our lives is to serve as positive motivators. Use those negative labels to seek what I call “positive revenge” to prove naysayers wrong. Let them realise that no matter what negative labels they paste on you it will not be hindered from realizing your greatness and #creatingamazing.

Les Brown, one of the world’s greatest motivational speakers and someone whom I listen to everyday, tells how at a young age his teachers declared that he was educationally retarded. He was called the dumb twin at school. For 30 years, he wore that label, but look at him today: the world’s best at what he does.

Oprah Winfrey was told that she could not become a television presenter yet became the one of history’s most successful and wealthiest media moguls.

Winston Churchill failed the 6th grade and was told he was not smart enough. He went on to become one of the greatest leader that the world has ever seen.

What is the common denominator between these people? They chose to remove all the negative labels that others sought to affix to them. Don’t allow anyone to stereotype you or put you in a box.

There are people out there that will label you not good enough, too weak, too dumb, inferior, poor, too slow, an angry black man (or woman), too cocky, over confident, too bright, a Mr. know-it-all, fat, or too posh. Don’t take on these negative labels and let them weigh you down and prevent you from realising your greatness.

Are you a Specialist or a Generalist in your business?

@AngiestrategyAre you a Specialist or a Generalist in your business?

As an entrepreneur, it can be a confusing world when you start consider how you are going to manage as well as market  your talents to grow your  business. When it comes to having multiple skills, this can bring it’s own challenges ( I know this by experience!) and whichever category we find ourselves in, we could all do with a little clarity from time to time, don’t you think?

So this week’s big question is: Are you a Specialist or a Generalist in your business?

specialist
Generalist

What is the definition of a specialist? “a person who concentrates primarily on a particular subject or activity; a person highly skilled in a specific and restricted field”

As with all things in business there are advantages and disadvantages of both. Let’s cover a few points for the specialist:

Advantages:

  • You an expert in your chosen field of speciality, what you don’t know not worth knowing!
  • Once you find your market, your sales may be easier
  • Using the title “specialist” means you can charge more!

Disadvantages:

  • May be difficult to generate regular income due to niche skills
  • You may have to turn down jobs or pass work on because you have only one
  • Expansion of your business may be difficult

What is the definition of a generalist? “a person competent in several different fields or activities”

Here comes the pros and cons of the  generalist:

Advantages:

  • You can promote your business to a wider audience.
  • You can go back to previous clients and offer additional services.
  • You can approach clients with alternative solutions which you could (also) deliver!

Disadvantages:

  • You are likely to have to turn down jobs or referred specialised work
  • You have more to manage in terms of project management
  • You may have charge lower rates than a specialist

I hope this has helped you on your way to identifying where and how you fit in the business world. There are no wrongs or rights in business however it does help if you know which category you fall into. Why? Because….
